 The Q & A with the champion:

Ravi Kant: Congratulations Dhrupad! aka Chess bomb for winning the Biggest online chess event in Northeast and also the highest online prize event you have won ever?
Dhrupad Kashyap: Thank you. Yes, in online events, this was the highest sum of money I received as a prize.

RK: Okay tell me, remaining unbeaten throughout the event and performing so well, how did you prepare for the event?
DP: I was really occupied with my academics, I mean, class 10 thing right. I did prepare some openings and was following some top online events and of course, playing random blitz.

RK: How are you taking a lockdown situation during this Covid-19 scenario?
DP: For me, it wasn’t that difficult. That says about my lifestyle a lot. I usually prefer staying at home and doing my necessary bits. But even though I say that, I still hope for this pandemic to end soon.

RK: You are playing limited tournaments in lockdown while your competitors were playing almost every event? Any problem regarding that?
DP: I don’t think the margin was that extensive, I also played a considerable number of events. I didn’t have any problem, but yeah, could have been prepared better as always.

RK: Last year you performed really well in the Commonwealth Chess Championship and you won Silver medal too? Tell me something about your preparation before the last game?
DP: I was nervous, and maybe that helped me to play more seriously in the round. I looked at a few variations before the game. Since I knew it will be less likely my opponent will let me play in my preparation. I just had a look at some games and went to play.

RK: During the last year your game standards have reached a new level? Can you share your secret?
DP: I guess it had to come. I’ve been playing decent chess even the previous year. But as always, I get puzzled up and mess everything. I think from the last year I’ve put slightly more effort and tried to push myself. Yes, my secret is surely my parents, coaches, and special ones.

RK: What do you usually prefer-Blitz or Classical?
DP: On any given day, I’d choose blitz over classical. I really enjoy this format of the game and if you want to have fun playing chess, I’d always suggest blitz. I guess in a way, it measures your prophylactic thinking, and how well prepared and ready you are.

RK: Who was the toughest opponent you faced in the tournament?
DP: Firstly, I really didn’t know whom I was playing with, the thing with online chess right. And it was an arena event, so didn’t even have the time to look at who it was. Everyone really played well to make the tournament tough. It wasn’t easy, even when I was having a streak of wins at the end, I still wasn’t confident enough that I could finish at the top.

RK: Thank you for speaking with Ashtapada Chess School, I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
DP: Sure!
